Footsteps of IW District 318 – A Glance

District 318 has been through various evolutionary stages to reach its  Present status. 

Inner Wheel District 317 in the old Mysore State (South) was formed on 20th of April 1968, comprising of the Inner Clubs of Bangalore, Bangalore

North, Bangalore South, Inner Wheel Club of Mysore, IWC of Shivamoga

and IWC of Sakleshpur. The IWC of Tumkur and the IWC of Hassan joined the

district within a few months. 

District Governor Rtn. A.B. Ramanand . inaugurated the District. The  Founder Chairman of the District was Mrs. Malathi Ramakrishna Rao - A member of IWC of Bangalore. This was the 3rd District in our Association. The First Conference of the District was held on the 24th of August, 1968. 

In 1970-71, the District came into being as District 318 due to reorganization. Mrs. Sheila Irani was the District Chairman. 

  As the Inner Wheel Movement picked up momentum, its growth

necessitated further bifurcation,  District 319 was bifurcated from 318 in 1977.

 

Inner Wheel District 318 boasts a rich and colorful History.

 

 Late Mrs. Sheila Irani was the First Association President for India & Srilanka from our District during 1980-81.  She was earlier Association Treasurer In the year 1977-78. We are proud of her achievements in bringing our District

to the National Scene. We are also honored to have had PDC. Mitra Prabhu

as the Association Secretary during 2011-12

In the beginning, during 1970,  there were just 3 Clubs. By 1991-92, there were 15 Clubs with 345 members.  District 318 now has 51 Clubs with 1800 members from 8 revenue districts of the Southern part of Karnataka, Namely - Chamarajanagar,  Mysore, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikmagalur and Hassan.

.The much-awaited District events are Orientation (COTI & DOTI) District

Assembly, District Rally, and District Conference. 

 The Association President is invited to the District Assembly, where she

will be installing the New District Chairman, which will happen in June/July. The District Conference shall be held in December every year. On a couple of occasions, we have had the International President gracing our District

functions. 

 Apart from fixed  District programs, there will be  zone-wise celebrations

like  World Friendship Day,  ISO Meet, and  International Inner Wheel

Day. We bring out a District Directory and a District Souvenir every year.

We have also started a Monthly E-Newsletter by the District Editor since 5

years apart from the Chairman bringing out the Newsletter

 

Memorable Events of District 318

 

• 1967-68 Formation of our District as District 317- Mrs Malathi

Ramakrishna Rao as  District Chairman

• 1970- 71 District 318 was formed bifurcated from District 317 when

Late. Mrs. Sheila Irani was the District Chairman

• 1977-78 -  District 319 was bifurcated from 318.

• 1977-78- The late Mrs. Sheila Irani was the  Association Treasurer of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India & Srilanka 

• 1980-81- PDC Mrs Sheila Irani served as the President of

Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India & Srilanka

•  1981- The Association Council (AC) Meet was hosted by all IW

Clubs of Mysore city for the first time, when  Late. Mrs Sheila

Irani was the Association President. Mrs. Meena Sanath was the DC

• 1995-96 -  AC Meet held at Mysore for the 2nd time under the Chairmanship of  Mrs.Krupalini Urs 

• 2000-01 -  For the first time, Incoming Chairman’s Institute  was

held at Mysore  when Mrs. Jannavi Murthy was the  District Chairman

• 2009 -      Our district hosted AC MEET for the 3rd time at Kudremukh. IWC OF Surathkal hosted it under the Chairmanship of Dr. Sita Shastry.

• 2011-12    PDC Mrs. G.G Mitra Prabhu served as Secretary of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India

• 2016 - The First Club of our District - IWC of  Mysore, celebrated the Golden Jubilee

• 2017 - Second Club - IWC of Shimoga, celebrated Golden Jubilee

• 2017 - IWCs of Thirthahalli & Moodbidri, Udupi, Sullia & Mysore South East Celebrated Silver Jubilee

• 2019 - IWC of Chikmagalur Celebrated Golden Jubilee

• 2019 – September: Our district hosted the South Zone Meet

“MILESTONE” for the first time when Mrs. Anuradha Nandakumar was the DC.

•  2021-22: 

1. Under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Pushpa Gururaj, the District Website was upgraded with satellite website facilities for all the clubs of the District.

2. For the First time, the District Received “The Margarate Golding Award to Mrs. Vani Venkatram, a well-known Social worker from Mysore. 

3. District Election was held online (E-Voting) for the first time and completed successfully

• 2022-23 - With the efforts of DC  Mrs. Kavitha Niyatha, along with ESO PDC. Suma Krshna added three more clubs to the District

• 2023-24 - IWC of Mysore West Celebrated its Golden Jubilee. 

 

As of date, our District has 51Clubs with        members
